1:14Tesla brings its Megacharger to Europe: 21 truck charging sites, open to other brands
Ahead of the European Tesla Semi in 2027, Tesla plans more than 100 megawatt charging stalls at 21 sites, starting in Germany, France, the UK, Sweden and the Benelux.
The Tesla Semi is coming to Europe in 2027, and Tesla is preparing the charging network it needs. At the IAA Transportation trade fair in Hanover, Semi program head Dan Priestley announced Tesla's first European Megacharger plans.
The plan
- Size: more than 100 megawatt-capable charging stalls at 21 sites.
- First countries: Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden and the Benelux.
- Open network: trucks from other brands can use it too.
- Standard: the Semi and the Megacharger use MCS, the new European standard plug for megawatt charging.
- Timing: Tesla gave no dates for when the sites open.
The power
The Megacharger hardware is rated at 1.2 MW. The European version of the Semi will draw at most 800 kW. That is still enough to add hundreds of kilometers of range during a driver's mandatory break.
Selling chargers too
Tesla will also sell charging equipment to fleets: a Megacharger set for €163,000 and a 120 kW 'Basecharger' for €17,000, both sold in pairs, with deliveries from mid-2027.
The competition
Tesla is not first. Milence, a joint venture of Daimler Truck, Traton and Volvo, opened Europe's first megawatt charger in the port of Antwerp-Bruges in February 2025 and already runs 13 hubs in six countries. With EU funding it is aiming for 284 megawatt charging points at 71 sites by the end of 2027.
The real bottleneck
Hardware is not the hard part. Getting a high-power grid connection can take years in much of Europe, which is likely why Tesla did not commit to opening dates.
What to watch
