Buying a used Cybertruck: a checklist before you sign

Guides · October 19, 2026

Used Cybertruck prices have dropped as new prices were cut. Here is how to pick the right version, check the recall history and inspect the stainless-steel body.

With new Cybertruck prices cut by up to $15,000 in 2026, used prices have followed. That makes a pre-owned Cybertruck more tempting, but there are things to check that are specific to this truck.

Know the versions

  • Foundation Series: the early, fully loaded launch editions from late 2023 and 2024, often with FSD included.
  • AWD: two motors, the volume model. In 2026 a cheaper AWD version arrived with fewer luxury features.
  • Cyberbeast: three motors and the highest performance.
  • RWD: a short-lived, single-motor version from 2025 that sold in very small numbers; it lacks several features of the AWD.

Check the recalls

The Cybertruck has had several recalls, including trim panels along the roof edge that could come loose, and in 2026 a recall for some trucks with 18-inch steel wheels. Enter the VIN in the Tesla app or NHTSA's recall lookup and ask the seller for proof that all recall work has been done. Recall repairs are free.

Inspect the body

  • Panel gaps and trim: look along the roof rails and around the bed for loose or uneven trim.
  • Stainless steel: it does not rust, but it does show fingerprints, water spots and scratches. Deep scratches and dents are hard and expensive to repair.
  • Wraps: many owners wrap their trucks. Ask what is under the wrap, and check for damage at the edges.

Inspect the truck parts

  • Open and close the motorized tonneau cover several times.
  • Test the Powershare outlets in the bed and cabin.
  • Check the air suspension at every height setting.
  • If the truck has towed often, check the hitch and the brakes.

Software and FSD

All Cybertrucks have Hardware 4. If the truck came with FSD, check whether the license stays with the truck after the sale.

Range and battery

Compare the range at 100% with the original figure for that version. Big tires, a roof rack or off-road accessories reduce range noticeably.

Remember

The Cybertruck is only road-legal in certain markets, including the US, Canada, South Korea and parts of the Middle East. It cannot be registered in the EU.
