1:03Tesla Roadster reveal pushed back two weeks to October 15, blamed on the weather
The long-awaited Roadster unveiling in Waco, Texas, has moved from October 1 to October 15. Tesla says the event can only be held outdoors and severe conditions were forecast.
The unveiling of Tesla's next-generation Roadster has been delayed again, this time by two weeks. The event, planned for October 1 in Waco, Texas, will now take place on October 15.
The reason
Tesla pointed to severe conditions in the forecast and said the event can only be held outdoors. Local forecasts showed warm temperatures, wind and rain, and it was not entirely clear which conditions Tesla considered too severe. The outdoor requirement hints that the demonstration involves more than a car on a stage.
A long history of delays
This is far from the first time the Roadster has slipped:
- November 2017: the second-generation prototype was shown, with production planned for 2020.
- 2020 to 2024: the launch was pushed back repeatedly.
- 2022: reservations reopened.
- 2026: the reveal moved from the end of 2025 to April 1, then to October 1 and now October 15.
Where and what
Waco is about 90 minutes north of Tesla's headquarters in Austin. Tesla has not shared details of what it will show, but rumors and earlier comments from Musk have long pointed to unusual features, including thrusters.
What to watch
A two-week weather delay is minor next to the years the Roadster has already waited. What matters on October 15 is whether Tesla shows a production-ready car with a price and a delivery date, or another spectacular demo with the details still to come.
