1:23Model Y is the best-selling car in all five Nordic countries, and one in four new cars in Norway
In September the Model Y topped the sales charts in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. In Norway alone, 4,810 were registered.
The Tesla Model Y was the best-selling passenger car in all five Nordic countries in September 2026, Tesla Europe announced on October 7. Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland all had the Model Y at the top of their charts.
Norway stands out
In Norway, 4,810 Model Ys were registered in September, giving the car a 25.7% share of the entire new-car market. In other words: more than one in four new cars sold in Norway that month was a Model Y. Electric cars made up 98.8% of all new registrations, so Norway has become an almost entirely electric market, and Tesla is its biggest player.
Tesla as a brand
Tesla was also the best-selling brand overall in Denmark, Iceland and Norway. Tesla did not claim brand leadership in Finland or Sweden, where other manufacturers sold more cars in total even though the Model Y was the top single model.
Loyal owners
In a follow-up post, Tesla said that three out of four Norwegian Tesla owners buy another Tesla. The company did not say where that figure comes from, so treat it as a claim rather than a measured statistic.
Part of a wider European recovery
The Nordic results fit a broader picture. In September, the Model Y was also Germany's best-selling car, ahead of the VW Golf, and Tesla's UK registrations nearly doubled. After two weak years in Europe, Tesla's sales are clearly recovering, helped by the refreshed Model Y, cheaper Standard versions and, in some countries, new EV incentives.
Why the Nordics matter
The Nordic countries are where Europe's electric future arrives first. What happens there, with near-total EV adoption and fierce competition from Chinese and European brands, shows how Tesla holds up once electric cars become the norm. Topping the charts in that environment is a strong signal for the Model Y.
