1:14Cybertruck recalls: a new wheel recall, and what the 2025 recall wave means for owners
Tesla is recalling 173 Cybertrucks with 18-inch steel wheels over cracking stud holes. It follows three recalls covering nearly 116,000 trucks in 2025. Here is what owners should check.
Tesla has issued another recall for the Cybertruck, this time a small one. It comes after a year in which the truck had more recall actions than ever.
The new recall
- Vehicles: 173 Cybertrucks from model years 2024 to 2026.
- Which ones: trucks with 18-inch steel wheels.
- The problem: the stud holes in the brake rotor can crack, which could let a wheel stud separate from the hub.
- The fix: Tesla Service will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs and lug nuts for free.
- Letters: owners will be notified by mail from June 20, 2026.
The 2025 recall wave
In 2025, Tesla's filings with the US safety regulator NHTSA covered 115,912 Cybertrucks across three recall campaigns:
- A stainless-steel exterior trim panel along the roof edge that could come loose while driving.
- A software issue that made the front parking lights brighter than allowed, fixed over the air.
- An optional off-road light bar accessory.
That number is the maximum count of trucks that could be affected, not the number that actually had a problem. Several recalls can cover the same truck.
What owners should do
- Check your truck in the Tesla app or on NHTSA's recall lookup with your VIN.
- Book the repair through the app if your truck is affected; recall repairs are free.
- Software recalls are usually fixed automatically with an over-the-air update.
Why it matters
Recalls are common for new vehicle designs, and many are minor. But for a truck already struggling with falling sales, every recall adds to doubts about quality. Tesla's ability to fix many issues over the air does help limit the impact for owners.
