1:03Tesla takes the Cybercab on tour in Japan: Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya
After its Austin launch, the Cybercab heads to Asia for a series of public displays. There are no rides or sales in Japan yet; it is about putting the robotaxi in front of the public.
Days after its launch in Austin, Tesla's Cybercab is going on a road show in Asia. The tour started in Hong Kong on September 9 and continues in Japan from September 11, with China on the list as well.
The Japan dates
- Tokyo (Aoyama): September 11–14, at OMAKASE Aoyama Garden.
- Osaka: September 17–20, at Tesla Grand Front Osaka.
- Nagoya: September 22–23, at Tesla Nagoya Noritake.
- Tokyo (Shinjuku): September 26–28, at Tesla Shinjuku.
Tesla warned that dates or content could change because of weather or venue rules.
A display, not a launch
This is a static exhibition. Visitors can see the two-seat, steering-wheel-free car up close, but there are no test rides, no robotaxi service and no Cybercab sales in Japan. The regular Model 3 and Model Y are on show at the same locations.
Why Japan
Japan is one of the markets where Tesla is pursuing approval for its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software, and the company has already demonstrated FSD on Tokyo streets. A driverless Cybercab, however, would need a separate Level 4 authorization from Japan's transport ministry, which is a much bigger step.
What it means
The tour is brand building: it shows the Cybercab to a huge, car-loving audience and tests local interest before any regulatory decision. Do not expect a Japanese robotaxi service soon. Do expect Tesla to use the attention to push for FSD approval in Japan.
