0:57Tesla sales rebound in Europe: France up 62%, Sweden up 38% in September
After two years of decline, Tesla's European registrations are climbing again. Early September data from France, Sweden and Norway all point up.
Tesla's registrations rose in several European markets in September, according to the first national figures published on October 1. It continues a recovery after two years in which Tesla's European sales kept falling.
The first September numbers
- France: up 61.9% year over year.
- Sweden: up 38.4%.
- Norway: up 2.2%.
Figures for the UK and Germany were due later in the week.
The wider trend
From January to August, Tesla's registrations in the EU, UK and the EFTA countries were up 43.3% compared with the same period last year, according to industry association ACEA. Battery-electric cars as a whole grew 38.8% over the same period, so Tesla is growing slightly faster than the electric market it competes in.
Why sales are recovering
- Easy comparisons: 2025 was a weak year for Tesla in Europe, so growth from that base comes more easily.
- Higher fuel prices: they make electric driving more attractive.
- Incentives: several governments support EV purchases.
- Broader EV interest: more buyers are considering an electric car.
What it means
September is the last month of the quarter and usually a strong one for Tesla in Europe, as ships arrive and deliveries peak. The real test is whether growth holds in the months after, when there is no quarter-end push.
